Lisa and I braved the crowds today to attend the Barack Obama rally after early voting. We knew the crowds were going to be big, but didn’t expect to see what the Albuquerque Journal estimated to be 45,000 people (shocking as McCain only drew 1,500 the same day).
We showed up around 4:30pm and were dismayed that the line began at Johnson field and ended at Yale, just west of Popejoy Hall. Little did we know that it would eventually wind a full 2 miles around the campus! Holy moly!
But I guess it shouldn’t be a huge surprise given how popular and inspiring this man is, who in 10 days is likely to be the next President. It was a truly amazing evening, one we won’t soon forget. Well worth the 4.5 hour wait.

And we are still very happy! We have been busy watching the news of the economic downturn and the upcoming election. It is an important few weeks coming up and we will be out there in the middle of it. We all vote on Saturday, go see Mr. Obama afterward and then off to school on Sunday to learn how to work at the polls. What a busy weekend but well worth it. Hopefully we can sneak in a bit of Christmas shopping in there too? What with everthing already on sale I doubt that I will have to drag Michael out at the crack on dawn the day after Thanksgiving to go shopping this year. I will take Robin and of course Michael is more than welcome to come along. I am looking forward to a very busy Thanksgiving at our house and a very quiet Christmas this year. Of course I tried to talk Michael and Shari out of putting the tree up before Thanksgiving what with us expecting 12 for Thanksgiving this year. Seems like it might be too much but I was out voted. Me out voted?? I will of course step back and watch them put it up and decorate it and I will enjoy it more than anyone else! I love this time of year!

We were rained out for Sunday’s mass ascension, but Thursday night was a warm 70 degrees with no wind. The perfect night for a special shapes Glowdeo.

Plenty of pictures to be had here.

Warren Buffett channels my post from exactly one month ago in his New York Times opinion piece today. To put it simply, Buffett says that now is the time to buy American stock, to invest in the market. He goes on to explain his rationale in his usual concise and clear language:
A simple rule dictates my buying: Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful. And most certainly, fear is now widespread, gripping even seasoned investors. To be sure, investors are right to be wary of highly leveraged entities or businesses in weak competitive positions. But fears regarding the long-term prosperity of the nation’s many sound companies make no sense. These businesses will indeed suffer earnings hiccups, as they always have. But most major companies will be setting new profit records 5, 10 and 20 years from now.
So follow the Oracle of Omaha’s lead, and keep investing, especially now. Lisa and I haven’t slowed down, we are taking advantage of this unique situation as much as we possibly can.
