1986 Cannondale ST-500

Published by

I picked up my 1986 Cannondale ST 500 in Emporia, KS at Pedal Revolution for around $300. That was back in 2002. Here’s a picture of it as it appeared in the bike shop:

And here’s what it looks like now:

After

The Cannondale ST500 was my first bike ever equipped with clipless pedals, and as Murphy’s Law is always near, I wrecked on my first day because I couldn’t figure out how to get out of the pedals. Eventually, I got used to them, and later added original Baggins Bags: the Baggins Candy Bar Bag and Baggins Banana Bag, piggy-backing on a Brooks B.17 saddle. Mmm. Leather.

Hi Ron, there is a great resource at Vintage Cannondale that can help you identify the year your Cannondale was made. Follow the link to vintagecannondale.com and click on Info/Serial Numbers.

Micheal: I have an st 500 too which I really love. The changes you made to yours are amazing. I hope you will share what was necessary to change the drivetrain so I can keep mine running in the future. Thank you for your time. David

    Guys:

I also got my hands on a ST500. It was hanging in my mom’s garage for years. Looks like a 1983. I’m in the process of replacing the components. Any advice would be much appreciated. I’m looking at the Shimano 105 components via Nashbar.
