This weekend’s project was a great one from Lisa, she thought an accent wall would look nice in our master bedroom. About 30 bucks for the paint, and we repainted the pocket door wall and for an added bonus, repainted the hallway.
From Lisa’s BlackBerry:

Lisa has good penmanship:

Beauty is painful. And I’m not talking about me. No, those beautiful frameless doors suck to clean:

I’ll post these pics here, too.

Our bathroom remodel is finished, and the contractors are gone.

Whew! That was a long 6 weeks. Fortunately, no Holmes on Homes moments. All that remains is the accessorizing, and that should be a lot more fun and exciting.

We’re pretty much done with big projects at the house, maybe in the next few years we’ll get the windows replaced and stucco repainted, but right now we just want to enjoy our lovely new bathrooms. They really did turn out better than we expected, and it’s a huge, HUGE difference. The money was well spent, and we’re happy to have contributed to rebuilding our horrible economy.
Here are the links to all the pictures of our bathroom remodel project:

Ok, it’s been quite a while since the last post and no new pics, but as you can see the demo on the main bath has begun! I’ll tell you now, cast iron tubs are a huge, HUGE pain in the ass to remove. I do have pics of that, but I’ll post those later.
The reason for the delay in additional pics is due to problems with the master vanity. Oddly enough, the vessel sinks did not match and it’s been a week of email to Costco and the vendor to try and resolve this! Still ongoing… Plus, there was a problem with our choice of lighting in the master bath, and now we have to find a new fixture. So, there hasn’t been much to take pictures of in the master, but I do have demo pics and the small bath is FINALLY being remodelled, so expect an onslaught of pics soon.
I will say, though, that we’re using the master shower now, and we love it!!! We received good news and the frameless shower doors are going in tomorrow, three days ahead of schedule.
Promise, pics to follow very soon.
Oh, and I go accepted to Anderson School of Management today. I’ll be an MBA grad student starting January. Thanks to Melanie, Carol, and Tim for their letters of recommendation, and lovely Lisa for her help with my statement of purpose. Couldn’t have done it without you all.

I’m not sure if that’s the technical term for it or not, but we had a problem with it yesterday.
The new shower pan has an edge that is more than twice as wide as the original had, and that wasn’t taken into account when the form was put down, so now the toilet is sitting too close to the shower. Which means that it had to be moved, which means a jack hammer, and at least a day lost. The plumber was in today to move the toilet hole about 8 inches.

No pretty, but that’s why you order extra tile. We still have to put in the travertine trim, so I hope there is enough to go around.
Yeah, it’s a bit of a bummer, but $#!@ happens, and it is all looking really good right about now. We should be able to start on the little bathroom next Tuesday.

Lisa is seeing some results! Today the travertine arrived and was installed. Raul and Horhay did an awesome job. I’m seeing a complete bathroom this time next week.

Lisa is now home for two weeks to run the show! I hope that we really see some results now that Michael has had to oversee the boring stuff like electricity and water. Lisa’s goal is to offer Raul and Horhay one cup of coffee each morning and then she wants to see them chip-chop off to work! The dust is no longer a welcome part of this project and we are anxious to see some finished product! Stay tuned…

The contractors’ have finished up their second week of work, and things are coming together nicely. About half the shower in the master bathroom is now tiled, and we love what we see so far.

The only glitch so far has been the delay in the tile delivery, which was all supposed to arrive Wednesday. A small portion arrived, with the rest arriving in time for Friday morning, but still no travertine. Not sweating yet since the floor will be tiled last, but still…
More pictures have been posted.

We’re into the second week of our master bathroom remodel, and the contractors have just completed their third day of work. There have only been a few surprises that popped up while uncovering 30 years of construction. For instance, here’s the hole we found under the old shower pan:

But nothing major at this point; no mold issues or significant water damage, and the plumbing is complete and the electricity has been re-routed (our worries centered around wiring for a jetted tub, but it was all straightforward).
So far we’re really excited about the progress, and getting anxious to see the final results. We have no choice but to be patient, though!

More to come soon…
